Copper chloride, commonly called cuprous chloride, is the lower chloride of copper, with the formula CuCl. It is a white solid sparingly soluble in water and completely soluble in concentrated hydrochloric acid. Impure samples of copper chloride appear green owing to the presence of copper (II) chloride. Robert Boyle first prepared copper chloride from mercury chloride and copper metal.
Cuprous chloride finds applications in the following:
2) Blue flame displays
3) Electroplating baths
4) Pigment for glass and ceramics,
5) Mordant in dyeing and printing fabrics
